There are millions of families in America who have a good credit history and qualify for a home mortgage, but who do not know how to buy a home or lack the lump sum money needed for a down payment. These hard working individuals and families are stuck in a rent cycle and deserve the chance to achieve the American dream of homeownership.
With your help, AmeriDream worked to remove two of the biggest barriers to homeownership – the lack of information about the home-buying process and the lack of a down payment for a home mortgage.
AmeriDream offered an online home-buying education program and conducted workshops in local communities across the nation. These courses were free and designed to inform and educate individuals and families about the home buying process and help program participants determine their level of readiness to enter homeownership.
Since its founding, AmeriDream provided money for homebuyers to use as a down payment, helping more than 250,000 individuals and families achieve the dream of homeownership. The average down payment gift AmeriDream provided was just $3,800 – a small amount of money relative to the difference owning a home makes in the life of a family, a community, and a nation.
AmeriDream also provided free home retention and loss mitigation services, designed to support any homeowner experiencing unforeseen financial challenges. Within AmeriDream’s mission to build stronger communities and individual prosperity by expanding homeownership opportunities, it was AmeriDream’s aspiration to help educate homeowners and empower individuals and families to use that knowledge to make informed decisions that enhance their future.
AmeriDream was committed to its motto, “Doing things right for America’s homebuyers,” and its focus to serve low- to moderate-income individuals and families.
