 CREATING AN AFFORDABLE, EARTH-FRIENDLY FUTURE
-- AmeriDream Provides Affordable Housing Options that Respect the Environment --

Gaithersburg, MD (April 22, 2003)—While the calendar may indicate that today is Earth Day, AmeriDream, Inc. celebrates Earth Day year-round through its dedication to environmentally friendly new home construction.

AmeriDream, Inc., an affordable housing non-profit organization, believes that homeownership is the foundation for strong communities; however, in order for these communities to survive, they must be able to stand the test of time. So, AmeriDream, in conjunction with Home Front Inc., has turned to constructing its affordable homes out of Structural Insulated Panels made of fiber-cement and foam, rather than forest products, which saves time, money and trees. These energy efficient wall panels are easily raised in place and are attached to the foundation. The roof, which doubles as the ceiling, is also a Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) constructed of aluminum and foam is installed. This process can be completed in less than a week. With a cost of approximately $25 per square foot to build the shell, this home can be constructed to suit low- to moderate-income families and individuals. These homes are currently being constructed in Southwest Florida and in Silver Spring, Md., and two of the homes are special projects for mentally and physically challenged adults.

“AmeriDream is eager to build a solid future for our communities,” said David Hintz, vice president of redevelopment at AmeriDream. “The affordable homes that we build are not only environmentally friendly but also energy efficient.”

The home design that AmeriDream and Home Front Inc. is building in Maryland has won numerous awards, including: 2003 Herald-Tribune Parade of Homes Energy Efficiency Award, the Silver and the Superior Award (affordable category), and the Florida New Green Home Award.  In addition to being engineered with green technology, the homes are energy efficient and in Florida have an average electric bill of only $55 per month.

“AmeriDream is building strong, lasting and affordable communities,” said Ann Ashburn, AmeriDream CEO. “We are proud to mark Earth Day this year with our new affordable and environmentally friendly homes.”
