Gaithersburg, MD (April 22, 2003) – While the calendar indicates that Christmas comes but once a year, Gilbert Fonville, 68, of Washington, DC, will celebrate it twice this year. His present will arrive when nearly 25 AmeriDream, Inc. volunteers ascend on Fonville’s house, April 26-27, to repair water damage, strip and repaint windows, replace broken glass, replace the kitchen countertop, and fix a leaky roof.

This is the second year that AmeriDream, the nation’s leading provider of affordable housing, has teamed up with Rebuilding Together with Christmas in April to do long overdue repairs on an area home. Again, this year, AmeriDream will not only supply the volunteers, but also the materials needed to complete the repairs. Typically, teams from all over the area are assembled by Rebuilding Together, given supplies and sent out on a mission.

“AmeriDream is dedicated to making a difference in people’s lives – one person at a time,” said Ann Ashburn, AmeriDream CEO. “Strong communities are built on strong homes and this is our opportunity to work in the neighborhood to help rebuild that foundation.”

Fonville, who suffered a stroke more than 25 years ago, submitted a request for repairs to his 1920s era home with Rebuilding Together With Christmas in April (www.rebuildingtogether.org) a non-profit organization that rehabilitates the homes of low-income elderly and disabled. AmeriDream selected his request because it fit the organization’s expertise.

One division of AmeriDream is the AmeriDream Redevelopment Program, which builds new, affordable homes and renovates existing properties, placing these properties on the market at prices that accommodate predominantly very low- to moderate-income homebuyers (as identified by the Department of Housing and Urban Development). AmeriDream believes that by building new homes and restoring existing properties, and providing tangible home buying assistance to new homeowners, it is helping to build communities for the future.
